Activate and Balance your Third Eye Chakra.

 

Namaste, Hope you all are doing well on your journey of healing. In the last articles, we read about five major Chakras among the seven, their functionality, blockages, and healing methods. In this article, we will cover the sixth Chakra among the seven major chakras. The 6th Chakra, or the Third Eye Chakra (in Sanskrit, Ājñā, which means “Command” or “monitoring center”), is located in the forehead above the meeting point of the two eyebrows. Its main color is purple, and the element it is associated with is light. It is the Chakra of perception and discrimination. The Third Eye Chakra can be considered the “mother” of the 7 chakras. While all other Chakras provide and produce different instincts, impulses, wills, feelings, emotions, and experiences, the Third Eye Chakra is supposed to be the one supervising them all. It is really the eye of the soul, the Seer, the center of presence and perception, the omega point in which all the other chakras impressions are being perceived. For this reason, it has also been called the “Seat of the Soul”. Its location in the center of the brain reflects this central role. The way the Sixth Chakra sees is that of pure seeing, or witnessing, and is transcendent in nature. However, it is also the seat of conscience: it does not only see, it also perceives the meaning of what is seen in the light of the soul. In the third eye we do not only see, but we also understand. This understanding though is partly beyond words, a pure seeing of meaning.

This is the chakra of intuition, wisdom, and our sixth sense. In Eastern philosophies, it is known as our ‘third eye’ and the spiritual center, which interacts with the rational mind in order to deepen our intuitive insight to see beyond the veil of illusion that is called “Maya.” The energy of Ajna allows us to access our inner guidance that comes from the depths of our being. It allows us to cut through illusion and to access deeper truths – to see beyond the mind, beyond the words. The “way of the third eye” is seeing everything as it is from a point of “witness” or “observer”, or from simply being mindful – moment by moment. The sixth chakra is holistic in nature. When this chakra is fully activated, both hemispheres of the brain function in synchrony. The right hemisphere’s creativity and synthetic thinking is integrated and balanced with the left hemisphere’s logical and analytical thinking. The third eye chakra is an instrument to perceive the more subtle qualities of reality. It goes beyond the more physical senses into the realm of subtle energies. Awakening the Third Eye Chakra allows us to open up to an intuitive sensibility and inner perception.

When the third eye chakra is strong we are able to see things as they truly are. We combine equally our gathered information with our intuition to make excellent decisions. This is more than the gut feeling of the Manipura Chakra, this is a constant connection between body, mind, and spirit. If the third eye chakra is overactive then we may feel overwhelmed with too much intuitive interaction. It may feel like a mental radio is playing in our heads and we’re unable to turn the volume down. We may feel hypersensitive, we may be experiencing strong, vivid, powerful, or upsetting dreams. We may feel spaced out or disconnected from reality. If the third eye chakra is underactive we’re unable to go with, or even feel our intuition. We are left only with the facts as we see them before us. We experience self-doubt because we know we should be able to feel which decision to make but we’re unable to do so. Chronic third eye blocks cause skepticism and narrow mindedness. Physical symptoms of an imbalanced third eye chakra involve any problems arising within the skull: eye problems, headaches, migraines, brain conditions, sleep disorders, endocrine imbalances, and issues with the pituitary gland, the pineal gland, and the hypothalamus. When the Third eye chakra has an imbalance, it can manifest as:

  • Feeling stuck in the daily grind without being able to look beyond your problems and set a guiding vision for yourself
  • Overactive third chakra without support from the rest of the chakra system may manifest as fantasies that appear more real than reality, indulgence in psychic fantasies and illusions
  • Not being able to establish a vision for oneself and realize it
  • Rejection of everything spiritual or beyond the usual
  • Not being able to see the greater picture
  • Lack of clarity

How to Heal or Balance the Third Eye Chakra:

  • One big problem associated with a blocked third eye chakra is being rigid and closed-minded. To overcome this problem, try reading books, watching new programs, or experimenting with activities outside of your comfort zone. Even if it feels a little weird at first, try to be curious about other perspectives and ways of life. As the element of the third eye chakra is light, you might find your mind becoming much clearer if you get outside a bit more. If you live in a dark or cold climate, you might like to try light therapy if getting natural sunlight isn’t much of an option. On a physical level, light awakens the pineal gland which improves the function of the third eye.
  • The pineal gland is a tiny pea-shaped mass within the brain that is linked to third eye chakra blockages. While the pineal gland is responsible for regulating our sleep cycles and reproductive hormones, it also has more mystical roots. Many ancient cultures such as the ancient Tibetan, Egyptian, and Chinese believed that the pineal gland is responsible for spiritual consciousness. To decalcify your pineal gland, try to avoid products and water sources that contain fluoride.
  • Meditation plays an important role in restoring balance to your chakras. Chakra meditation techniques are similar to traditional meditation techniques but focus on a specific area of the body. Below is a simple meditation technique to aid in balancing your heart chakra.

Sit with your shoulders back and spine straight. Keep your hands in ‘Kalesvara Mudra’ relax your muscles as you close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale through your nose and exhale through the mouth.

Focus your attention on the location of your Third Eye Chakra: right between the eyebrows. Keep a mild focus between the eyebrows with your closed eyes.

Since the  Third Eye Chakra is tied to the Light, imagine a White light coming down from the sky and focusing on your Third Eye Chakra. 

Once you are relaxed start chanting the AUM/OM sound with each exhale, you can also play the Seed Mantra sound in the background while you meditate, do it for a few minutes, and then slowly open your eyes.

  • Each chakra is influenced by unique stones and their energetic properties. Use crystals as energetic totems that will help you balance your third eye chakra energy. Try meditating or carrying crystals such as Shungite, Sapphire, Lapis Lazuli, Kyanite, Labradorite, and Amethyst.
  • Introduce more of the following fruit and vegetables into your diet which all resonate with the third eye chakra: prunes, dates, blackberries, blueberries, figs, raisins, eggplant, purple cabbage, kale, purple carrots, and purple potatoes.
  • Use herbs such as mugwort, star anise, saffron, basil, jasmine, lavender, passionflower, rosemary, and blue lotus. You can diffuse these herbs, burn them as incense, apply them topically (in a diluted form), or consume them. We can also use oils such as Patchouli, Frankincense, Clary Sage, Sandalwood, Juniper, and Vetiver. You can put these oils into an oil diffuser, or rub them on your wrist (in a diluted form). 
  • Reiki healing is another effective method to balance the chakras and keep them inflow. You can give reiki to yourself (people who are attuned to reiki) or ask a professional therapist to give you Reiki healing
  • Yoga-asana is another effective method for chakra balancing there are specific yoga poses for each chakra. Yoga poses for Third Eye Chakra are:

  • Balasana | Child Pose
  • Prasarita Padottanasana| Wide-Legged Forward Fold
  • Nadi Shodhana Pranayama | Alternate Nostril Breathing
  • Affirmations are phrases that target negative, limiting beliefs and replace them with more positive beliefs. They can be used to help you with everything from weight loss to finding love, so it stands to reason that they can also be used to balance chakras. When designing third eye affirmations, in particular, you want to focus on spirituality, your gut instincts, and your basic sense of purpose. Here are some examples you can try. Feel free to adjust them until they feel right:
  • I am in touch with my inner guidance.
  • I listen to my deepest wisdom.
  • I seek to understand and to learn from my life experiences.
  • I am wise, intuitive, and connected with my inner guide.
  • I nurture my spirit.
  • I listen to the wisdom of elders.
  • I trust my intuition.
  • I forgive the past and learn what was there for me to learn.
  • I forgive myself.
  • I love and accept myself.
  • I know that all is well in my world.
  • I am connected with the wisdom of the universe.
  • I am open to inspiration and bliss.
  • My life moves effortlessly.
  • I am at peace.
  • I am the source of my truth and my love.
