Know Your Chakras – Chakra Anatomy. A step by step guide to understand your body and gain control

Namaste, my name is Yogi, I am a full-time artist as well as a reiki healer. I have been practicing Reiki for the last 5 years and it has helped me as well as the people who requested healing for their various reasons. I was born in India and being an Indian even if you don’t evolve in any practices you get to hear words from the ancient scriptures as these words have been a part of lifestyle words such as Karma, Buddhi, Prana, Jeev, Mukti, Moksha, and the list goes on…. Chakra is a word that has been known across the globe when we talk about Yoga, healing therapies, life energy system etc. I was also aware of this word and had some information too that I accumulated as I grew up but I had no idea how important this word could be in terms lo life itself until I took my first Reiki Attunement.

Reiki is an energy healing therapy wherein a reiki practitioner channels the life force energy and transmits it to the recipient’s body. While practicing Reiki I got to know how life energy flows through us and make this life happen as we live it. So I thought to share some thoughts and observations about the whole Chakra Anatomy.  Chakra is an old Sanskrit word that literally means wheel and you can imagine them like wheels of free-flowing life force energy (Prana).

As per the Yogic culture, this life force energy flows through all living creatures in this cosmos it is the core of existence without it we are just a pile of flesh and bones. It is said that the human body has a perfect mechanism like any other machine that lets this energy flow throughout the body. This mechanism consists of 72000 Nadis and 114 Chakras out of the 114 chakras 112 are in the body and two Chakras are out of body one above the head connecting us with the divine and the other below the feet connecting us to the mother earth or Root. These 72000 Nadis work like a widespread web in the body connecting all the chakras and keeping a flow of the life force energy. Among the 114 Chakras, there are 7 major chakras, 21 minor chakras and 86 micro chakras. Most commonly we talk about the 7 major chakras as these are the main energy centers of this entire life energy system. Life energies flow through us in four different forms Physical energy, Mental energy, Emotional energy and spiritual energy. Nadis function as a pathway of the life energies and chakras work as a purification and distribution center of the life energies in our body. For a perfect life, we need a balance of these four energies.

The mainstream chakra system is based on a Hindu chakra system that recognizes seven distinct “wheels” or “centers” of energy that are perpetually in motion along the human body’s spinal column. We work with the seven main chakras which run alongside the spine. They start at the perineum (the space between the genitals and anus), and then run-up in a straight line to the top of the head. The topmost chakra is in fact just outside of the body above the top of the head. Each chakra is said to vibrate at a different frequency and is associated with a particular color. They are also each associated with certain emotions and organs and their function. The seven chakras are the main energy centers of the body that play an important role in the balance and health of our bodies. The seven primary chakras are the basis of our human existence.

In my next blogs of this series, I will explain each of these 7 chakras separately That will include the primary information about chakras, their effects on our life and some basic practices to keep the chakras balanced.
